How We Work
Counselling is typically a consultation with an expert. It is the act of helping the client to see things more clearly, possibly from an altered standpoint. This can enable the client to focus on feelings, experiences or behaviours, with a goal of facilitating positive change. This is also a relationship of trust. Confidentiality is supreme to successful counselling. Professional counsellors will usually explain their policy on confidentiality, they may, however, be required by law to disclose information if they believe that there is a risk to life. We are qualified psychological counsellors, and We abide by the codes of conduct and professional practice.
We understand that no two persons are alike. The understanding of life depends on personal experiences one has. Therefore, we avoid judging our clients. We see them as they are with their problems rather than telling them how they should be. Instead, we facilitate them to talk openly and freely. Talking in such a way is rarely possible with family or friends, who are likely to be emotionally involved and have opinions and biases. We don’t judge, don’t offer advice. We give the client an opportunity to express difficult feelings such as anger, resentment, guilt and fear in a confidential environment.
At Mindmaster, the counsellor may encourage the client to examine parts of their lives that they may have found difficult or impossible to face before. We use an extensive range of psychotherapies from solution oriented to insight oriented to holistic meditative approaches, depending on what the individuals coming to us are comfortable with. We may combine several psychotherapy methods or use different methods at different stages of therapy, incorporating them completely to form a meaningful whole.
A typical counselling session may last for 50 min- 1hr. Sometimes a single session is sufficient. However, most of the times, it takes several weeks or months. The client and the counsellor plan together, how often and for how long to meet. At Mindmaster, we also provide the facility of online counselling.
We, like many psychological counsellors prefer to work with clients over a small number of highly focused sessions and then to offer an "open door" policy. This means that clients are free to return for more sessions if and when they require them, knowing that there is a reliable, professional service available and that they will always be made welcome.
